A newspaper's success relies on not only what's in it but what it looks like.
We want people to pick up the paper, and to do that, we need talented, creative people. Kyle Stoneman, our production manager in 2006, perhaps said it best: "We take stories, photos and ads and put them together like a big puzzle, and then we check the jumps, and somehow the paper comes out the next morning."
The Hatchet uses the Adobe Creative Suite 3 on Apple's latest computers for page layout and graphic design. Experience with these or other page design programs is helpful, but training for new team members is quick and always available.
Graphic Design and Art
The Hatchet has a huge need for talented graphic artists: editorial cartoonists for our opinions section, and graphics producers to work with news and layout, and even web designers to work with our online team.
