The GW Hatchet has been covering Foggy Bottom and the District for more than 100 years, and is the second-oldest newspaper in the city – after The Washington Post. It is editorially and financially independent, and was recently named best non-daily student newspaper in the nation for 2007.

In Washington, there are people who make news and people who break news. If you want to break news, The Hatchet is for you.

Most professional journalists start by working at a college newspaper, and there is no better place to begin your career than at The Hatchet. Our reporters are covering everything from the courts to Congress, and they are learning real-world lessons not taught in any classroom. Our alumni include five Pulitzer Prize winners, along with writers at The Washington Post and The New York Times.

The bulk of our reporters are freshmen and sophomores, so anyone can make a difference! No prior experience is required, and each reporter is assigned to an editor who serves as a guide and teaches them the trade.

If you are not interested in writing, you can also shoot photos, design the paper, create multimedia videos or work on our Web site. This Web site is meant to help you find your place at The GW Hatchet, and be sure to watch our recruitment video at left or here.

I encourage you to get more information, e-mail us, and come visit us in the fall. If journalism is not for you, then I hope you'll pick up the paper every Monday and Thursday and read gwhatchet.com. Good luck and have fun here!
