As the newspaper of record at GW – one of the largest landowners and employers in D.C. – The Hatchet is one of the most influential papers in the nation's capital.
Our news department routinely breaks stories that appear in The Washington Post, The Chronicle of Higher Education and on local television networks. We work tirelessly and strive for excellence.
News reporters and editors are constantly meeting with administrators and student leaders, building valuable contacts in the community. There is no better opportunity to learn about the many facets of GW and the city.
If you decide to write for news, you will need to choose between the two sections: metro and campus.
Campus news is focused on a wide variety of GW issues, including development, tuition, admissions, the Student Association, academics, student organizations, speakers on campus and Greek-letter life.
Metro news covers topics relating to both the University and the District, such as lawsuits, campus crime, local government, fires, protests and other colleges in the area.
